Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into the skin at particular points on the body to treat ill health or to maintain good health. It is thought to stimulate the body’s ability to heal by stimulating nerves under the skin and in muscle tissue as well as bioelectrical impulses in the tissues. Chemical changes at the site causes the release of substances that relieve pain and help tissue heal.
Acupuncture treatments are very relaxing, allowing your nervous system to transition out of “fight or flight” (sympathetic) mode. In the relaxed (parasympathetic) state, your body can heal.
